Needless to say, it has been a busy 2018 for Butte’s Montana Tech!
The university, one of the community’s most valuable assets, impacts not only the community of Butte, but the entire state of Montana. Montana Tech has consistently been named a top university and a top for return on investment. Previously, Niche.com named Tech as Montana’s top public university based on rigorous analysis of academic, admissions, financial, and student life data from the U.S. Department of Education along with millions of reviews from students and alumni. In 2015, Montana Tech had also been named the #1 university in a report by EDsmart of the Top 40 Colleges Advancing America’s Economic Progress. This trend only continues for the university as it has seen continued growth and success over the last few months.
Here are just a few highlights of the amazing work the campus’s students and staff have accomplished as of late:
- Completed and opened the Natural Resource Research Center (NRRC), a state-of-the-art building including laboratories, workspaces, and support spaces for undergraduate and graduate research in the fields of natural resources and energy.
- Began construction on the Montana Tech Student Success and Living Learning Center, designed to assist Montana Tech in recruiting, retaining, educating, and graduating more problem-solvers, innovators, healers, trailblazers, and leaders. With the new facility, Montana Tech will offer more opportunities for students to achieve their educational dreams and move forward on the path to their own extraordinary futures.
- Montana Tech has been recognized by the Annual RegisteredNursing.org RN Program State Rankings as the #1 ranked RN program in Montana.
- With an average early salary of over $80,000 a year and an annual of not more than 10% of that, Montana Tech of the University of Montana’s School of Mines and Engineering easily ranks #1 as the best engineering school in the country by Best Value Schools.
- Dr. Roger Jensen, PhD, was presented the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. Who’s Who Lifetime Achievement recognizes individuals that have achieved greatness in their industry. These individuals have excelled in their field for at least 20 years.
- The Wildlife Society presented their Wildlife Conservation Award to Dr. Stella Capoccia, Montana Tech Biological Sciences associate professor, at the Montana Chapter’s 2018 annual conference. The award is given once a year to the outstanding state’s most outstanding researcher/conservationist.
- Dr. John W. Ray of Montana Tech’s Liberal Studies Department has had an article entitled “Hegel’s Political Philosophy of Self-Knowledge: How Knowing Thyself Necessarily Occurs in a Political Community” accepted for publication in the peer reviewed international journal Hegel Jahrbuch (Hegel Yearbook) published under the auspices of the Internatonale Hegel Gesellschaft (International Hegel Society) and the University of Berlin.
- Montana Tech’s Heavy Civil Team placed 3rd at the national Associated Schools of Contruction (ASC) Competition in Sparks, Nevada. The heavy civil team, competing against schools from across the United States, consisted of 6 members: Kendra Jackson, Mike Williams, Nic Amestoy, Andy Anderson, Ashley Johnson, and Jason Vesco. The team was challenged with a problem that included a bridge in Honolulu and completed an estimate for the project while developing innovative ideas to present to the project sponsor’s judges.
- Montana Tech’s Environmental Design Team placed 2nd at the 2017 Pacific Northwest International Section of the Air and Waste Management Association (PNWIS) Environmental Challenge Contest held in Boise, Idaho. The team was comprised of five undergraduate students from the Environmental Engineering Department at Montana Tech: Ethan Askam, Carson Bechtel, Caelan Brady, Madison Cyr, and Seth Garrity.
Without a doubt, Montana Tech is continuing to lead the way in elevating educational opportunities for not only our community, but the world as a whole. We are beyond excited to see the output of their continued hard work and are proud to have such an amazing institution as a member of the Butte community.
